Haliburton's home on Water Street, Windsor where Thomas was born. William Halyburton (Haliburton) was one of the original Rhode Island Settlers, or Planters, to answer Governor Lawrence's call to people the fertile lands around the Avon and St. Croix rivers. (Lawrence's document was later dubbed "the Charter of Nova Scotia" by T.C. Haliburton.) William Halyburton and his young wife, Lucy, arrived in 1761 and settled in what came to be Known as Newport, just outside Windsor. After the death of their first son William and Lucy moved to the town of Windsor. In 1767 they gave birth to William Hersey Otis (W.H.O.) Haliburton, Thomas' father. More - Rhode Island Settlers 1760
