"Windsor, Nova Scotia from the Residence of Judge Haliburton,
Author of Sam Slick"
by W. H. Bartlett

Bartlett definitely
took artistic liscence here. His caption says that this painting depicts the "Residence
of Judge haliburton" but this is not Clifton House. (Bartlett did a wonderful
rendition of Clifton House in 1833). This
1836 painting is painted from the aspect of looking down on the Avon River from
the vantage point of Haliburton’s property. It is the same view Haliburton would
have had. Notice the Windsor Bridge in the lower left corner, not seen in the
similar 1800 View of the Avon.
